7 Tips for Designing a Law Firm Social Media Page That Stands Out

by Talia Schwartz • April 15th, 2021 • Social Media | Blog

Law Firm Social Media DesignPeople decide whether or not they’re going to follow your law firm on social media the minute they land on your page. Generally, people will judge a firm’s social media presence on two factors: how interesting the content is and how it appears visually. So much of social media is about perception and design plays a big role in determining that. For that reason, social media design needs to be an integral part of your law firm’s social media marketing strategy.

How can you make sure your social media page attracts and engages the right audience? We’ll cover that and more below.

7 Tips for Designing a Law Firm Social Media Page That Stands Out

Social media platforms are often the first place consumers discover law firms. Therefore, making a great first impression is the first step to building a robust social media presence.

The following social media design tips are particularly important on platforms that prioritize visuals, like Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook. But you’ll still need to make sure your designs are consistent on all platforms.

1. Prioritize consistency and cohesion

Consistency will build brand recognition. Every time someone sees your presence, they should note the same color scheme, logo, and tone. We suggest sticking to a regular color and visual scheme.

2. Use colors to mirror your brand identity

It’s no surprise that colors affect how consumers perceive your brand. There are a few ways to incorporate color into your social media design. The first is in your templates. If you plan to use templates when posting graphics, you’ll want to incorporate your colors to increase your brand recognition.

As you post images and videos, try to focus on a set of shades within your color palette. Take a look at White & Case’s Instagram profile. They consistently post content that adheres to their blue and black color scheme. It’s no wonder they always earn top ranks in our annual Social Law Firm Index.

3. Utilize social media design templates

If you plan to scale your social media presence and post everyday, you need to take advantage of templates. Templates can save time and ensure the consistency we mentioned. Take a look at platforms like Canva that will make it easy to create and share templates within your team. We suggest creating a diverse set of templates so that they can be used in several scenarios and across content types such as infographics and videos.

4. Adapt your design to each individual platform

Each social media platform has different specifications around content. For example, Instagram Reels are meant to be viewed on smartphones, so use portrait orientation when creating them. Look at the sizing and orientation that’s optimal for graphics or videos on each channel. Additionally, make sure the content type is right for the platform. For instance, infographics won’t do very well on Twitter, so it’s best to break them down into text snippets.

5. Research design best practices

You might not be a graphic designer, but you can (and should) look up general design rules to help you create attractive and on-brand visuals for your law firm. Here are a few common design principles:

  • Arrange visual elements by order of importance. Use sizing, contrast, and space to accomplish this.
  • Always use the same set of fonts, colors, and logos.
  • Limit your design to a maximum of 3 typefaces. Traditionally, serif fonts are best for print and sans-serif for web.
  • Place the most important elements in the biggest fonts.

6. Your profile matters

Creating interesting posts can take a lot of time. For that reason, it’s easy to get caught up in your feed and not pay as much attention to your profile. Make sure your profile photo, cover photo, and other visual elements that align visually and contextually with your law firm’s brand.

7. Get help from creative professionals

When it comes to images and illustrations, it’s worth consulting professionals who specialize in creating high-quality content. They can guide you through the creative process and provide suggestions that will elevate your design. This is particularly true for non-marketing staff who have billable hours to manage. Let them focus on doing what they do best, and partner with professionals who are experts in social media marketing and design.
