David Brown

David L. Brown is an award-winning editor, content strategist and writer with nearly 20 years of experience in the legal affairs arena. He works with clients to improve the quality of their content, counsels them on their content strategies and creates content – including white papers, long-form articles, and thought leadership pieces — to help serve their internal and external audiences. Brown has served in many of the top positions in legal media: He led ALM Media’s entire editorial team as the company’s editor in chief, and before that, was editor in chief of the prestigious The National Law Journal. He was also the editor in chief of the award-winning Legal Times in Washington, D.C. and executive editor at The American Lawyer. He started his journalism career as a reporter in the San Francisco Bay Area, covering local news before shifting to the legal beat. In his years covering the law, he has edited and written stories on myriad legal issues, from cutting-edge tech law in Silicon Valley, to high-end litigation and federal regulation in Washington, to financial and corporate law on Wall Street. A native of Springfield, Ill., Brown received his master’s degree in Public Affairs Reporting from the University of Illinois. He is based in New York City.
Prior to his senior editing roles, David was a writer and editor at news publications in the San Francisco Bay Area, covering a wide range of legal and public policy issues. He has an M.A. from the Public Affairs Reporting program at University of Illinois-Springfield and a bachelor’s degree from Illinois State University.
